❄️ WINTER SOLSTICE writing workshop isSunday, December 19th. This is the last writing workshop of the year! Please sign up in advance here here (Sunday, 12/19, 10am - 12pm PST).
Questions? Ask. I’m here and I’d love to hear from you.
Hey friends,
Lately in my 1:1 work with people, preparing for the holidays is a big theme. I’m guessing it’s a big theme for some of you, too. Some folks are gearing up to see family for the first time in two years! This is emotional enough on it’s own. And, for many folks, it also includes going home, or being with family, for the first time as people who are abstaining from alcohol.
This is a big deal.
Between now and the end of the year, these Friday posts will be geared toward advice/suggestions for navigating the holidays in ways that hopefully helps keep you close to yourself, and helps you head into your festivities with a plan in place and a mindset that can sustain the inevitable highs and lows.
Comment below, or click “reply” to this email if you have questions you’d like to see explored here. Remember: if you have a particular question, chances are many other people have the same one, so by asking you are helping your fellow readers ✨
Next week, we’ll kick it off with suggestions on how to respond to people who ask why you no longer drink. Think of it as a…softer way to approach this then putting your hands on your hips, jutting your chin forward, and declaring, “MIND YOUR OWN BUSINESS,” (which, to be fair, I think can be a totally fair response).
Big love to you all, always,
tuya, dani
📖Read: One of my favorite living poets, Saeed Jones, has blessed us by reactivating his Substack and sending out multiple posts per week, including fresh poems (!). Click here for the one from this week (and to subscribe!).
👀Watch: Ok “watch” is getting harder for me…because I never watch anything. Maybe I include an 8-hour video loop of the back of my eyelids? Seriously, y’all! I need help. What are you watching? Shows? Movies? The YouTubes? Extra special Tik Toks? Compelling Instagram rants? Particularly cute puppy videos?
🎧Listen: After a listening hiatus on my part, I have so been digging diving back into the Longform podcast. The conversations are brilliant and I was particularly moved this week by an interview with writer Mitchell S. Jackson, who wrote a Pulitzer Prize winning story about Ahmaud Arbery. Mitchell’s own story is incredibly compelling too, and I was so moved my his candor, intellect and humor. Can’t recommend more highly.
