Happy Friday, angels.
Yāall - I almost made it around another wheel of the year without falling into an existential crisis related to social media and the internet! Almost, but not quite.
About once per year, I have a (quiet, internal, no-one-would-ever-notice, very-Dani) freakout about time. Specifically, time spent on my phone, time spent on social media, time spent placing my most exquisite resource - my attention - into my devices. So I delete everything and regroup, and thatās whatās happening again starting today through December 31st.
I know I talk a lot about āinhabiting the messy middle.ā And, I know my limits. There are certain things I canāt moderate. And though I donāt think Iām ready to fully forgo for good my social media everything, I also need periods of complete breaks.
The regroup period (usually 3 months or sometimes 100 days) is what Iāve come to relate to as Cave Experiments. As inspired by the Raptitude post I read a few years ago (linked below!), I go deeper. I pull my attention and resources back in. Here is what Iām taking on between now and the end of this weird-ass-year:
SELF STUDY: Walking myself through The Artistās Way for a second time. If you want to join, a group of us are doing it together, and I started a slack channel where we can share about it - email me/respond to this post if you want to join <3
MINDFUL SPENDING: I am not a big shopper - this one specifically refers to BOOKS. I wonāt buy any new books, Iāll read all the books piled up by my bedside.
Working on a small-group January offering based on āThe Deeper Blueā
Thereās something about slowing down and digging in deeper as a practice that is so alluring to me. Sometimes I get the social media fomo, but that usually dissipates after a couple of weeks.
Anyway: if you want to join me in any/all/some unique to you version of any of this, Iād love to hear what you might take on/take away/move toward/dig in deeper with in the comments below šš½
all my love forever, tuya,
xxoo dani
šRead: āWhy the Depth Year was my best yearā over at Raptitude. ā With depth as a guiding principle, we naturally start to look for value in whatās already available to usāin our closets, bookshelves, and address booksāand invariably we start to appreciate how much was already there.ā
šWatch: I know I plugged this a few weeks ago, but itās definitely The Thing that instigated this yearās tailspin.
š§Listen: Who are you without the doing? I listen to this one also about once a year: āIn this mini-episode, I examine how our obsession with being disciplined and āgetting things doneā can cause us lose to touch with our true selves. And how taking an attitude of tender discipline towards yourself can make it significantly easier to release anxiety, find clarity, and get into the creative flow.ā
