Happy Friday and Happy fall, everyone!
A week from tomorrow, I’m giving a talk at Sober Voices.
As I drifted off to sleep last night, I was thinking again about this time four years ago, and the overwhelming realization that I might actually be done with drinking for good, and how precious, not to mention bizarre that time was. I thought about sitting in a circle nine months later at that first ever Bridge Club, and all that’s come from that night, including full time employment at Tempest, working “on purpose” for the first time in my career, and best of all, the greatest friendships I’ve ever known.
Four years later, to be giving a talk about The Deeper Blue of sobriety is pinch-myself unreal.
I’m excited for this talk. It’s anchored (heh) in metaphor and storytelling, and clear and practical tips for what The Deeper Blue might actually might look like in (your) real life.
The rest of the Sober Voices lineup is incredible, and I recommend you take a look. (Disclosure time: I do get some commission if you sign up so if you do register if you could use this link that would be so rad).
The Deeper Blue is the way I keep deepening into myself and my life no matter what swirls around me. It is interdependence and community; eyes-open personal responsibility; ease and rest alongside the hard-as-hell work of being human. It is pushing back forever on binary thinking, and choosing the messy middle, again, and again, and again, every day. It’s softness toward and acceptance of my quirks, shadows, faults and failures. It’s showing up, even when I am a squirrel.
It is the joy of being in the water with all of you.
all my love forever, tuya,
xxoo dani
📖Read: As someone who was deeply embedded in the yoga world from 2009-2014 only to stand back and witness how sick that culture is and how gross and corrupt 99% of all “celebrity” yoga teachers actually are, it was a bit activating to read this person’s account of spiritual abuse they experienced “studying” under Elena Brower. I will ALWAYS believe and stand with victims of this bullshit and if I learned anything from those experiences (there were SO many), it’s that the second I start putting anyone on a pedestal it’s usually a signal to cut and run.
🎧Listen: Many of you have heard me reference The Onion of Sobriety™ as one of the guiding images I return to again and again in recovery to help me make sense of and ground into my experience. The next layer of the onion for me is unpatterning some of my weird relationship stuff and holy hell, this podcast is the first thing—maybe ever!?—that has me feeling a mindset shift.

👀Watch: This is a the cutest thing I’ve ever seen and also an antidote to the above grumpy ex-yoga-person-rant.
