Questions? Just ask. As ever I’m here and I’d love to hear from you.
Happy Friday, friends.
Last week I asked you to help me remember what fun is and you did not disappoint. The following is a gorgeous list. I hope it inspires you to find some slivers of pleasure and joy amidst the chaos that continues to swirl:
Megan: Fun for me is walks with my family. Dinner out with just my husband. Planning vacations. Hanging out with my best girlfriends.
Jessy: fun for me: adventures with Sig (woodsy walks, walks at the creek, walks in meadows, walks along the river!), pinball with my friends, watching a movie from the couch w my fave snacks, and reading.
Catherine: Fun= hiking, backpacking, working out, reading, playing Bananagrams, teaching myself to play the ukulele, visiting museums, spending time with extended family, painting, making homemade gifts for people, live performances, (ballet, symphony, theater) yoga, swimming in a lake or river, riding my bike, snow shoeing, canoeing, hanging with friends, browsing in bookstores or the library, estate sales, flea markets, farmer’s markets, art galleries, picnics, movies, Halloween, and dogs. Also, if you haven’t read “The Sober Lush” I recommend! Lots of great ideas for fun. xo
Kat: hiking, camping, planning a trip, cooking for/with friends, going to the movies, playing games like codenames and euchre, going out to eat, dips in rivers/lakes/oceans/pools
hoppy_fitness: Working out ! Watching other people workout 😂
alimossisboss: Netflix and knitting. Yoga outside with friends. Cooking a fancy meal while dancing around the kitchen.
cribbs: bird watching. hiking. baking. cooking. photography. people watching with tea or hot chocolate or iced herbal tea. decorate/rearrange furniture.
sentient_bangs: Baking and cooking for my friends, trying new food/snacks from other countries, browsing around international grocery stores, work in my garden, organize my house, watch movies, crossword puzzles, read… pretty much anything that isn’t going to work is fun TBH 😂
chlovazzano: I’ve been taking crafty classes through Jenny Lemons. The watercolor class was rad.
favemadden: Puzzles (not jigsaw) and themed playlists
brendashares: Roller skate, paint my nails (sounds silly but I find it soothing), sew, and watch scary movies.
laurenc.johnson: Dance!
lulubellefandango: ❤️❤️❤️ (thanks mom)
hucklecat: Dance class, trapeze, listening to music, reading, hiking, watching a movie, thrift shopping
township31: You ARE fun. Come hang out with me. I’m also fun. ❤️❤️❤️
sofia_medrano: Dancing events/classes! Switching up my workouts, working out with friends, walking with friends, hiking, game nights, puzzles, funny videos and memes😁

jeeeneee: Maybe we can get together and rollerskate? 🤷🏻♀️ (I’m a tentative yes)
tonitonetones: Being in nature, making collages, eating delicious food, long drives with a good playlist
mamadanger: I cook meal kits! I take advantage of those deals and order ahead and it’s fun to close my laptop, put on a podcast and just follow directions. Try new trails. Walk the beach. Explore coffee shops. Make weird collages. Go to the nursery. Lots of fun
edandsonia: Hiking, which I know you already do! Trying new recipes, practicing my Spanish with whoever will talk to me, helping out/volunteering wherever I can ❤️
layle25: Nurturing plant babies, organizing my space , puppy walks & cuddles, swimming laps, Pilates on yoga Glo, baking new yummy things , tea & reading in bed , dancing !!!❤️
localrootsnutrition: This is such an important question. Thank you for making me ponder it for myself! The first thing that comes to mind is swimming..playfully.walking around farmers markets and getting excited about the change of seasons and what’s newly available ☺️
killerpeach777: I love that you're asking this because play and having fun are things that I would like to invite more into my world!
tallestkidintheroom: For fun I like to: - noodle around on my guitar - bake bread - watch a good movie or show - wrestle with my kids - read a great book - go down a Wikipedia rabbit hole - watch old live music clips on YouTube
integrativeoccupationaltherapy: Although I haven’t been since early 2020, adult skate at the roller rink!
iamannied: Read, nature (walks, bike ride, lie on the beach), cook/eat, gardening.
catalopey: Working out or doing yoga at home 💪 (I discovered Fitness Blender last year and absolutely love them; they’re just good people; Yoga with Adrienne is my other go to🧘♀️). Playing video games 🤓; binge watching really good TV (Ted Lasso & Never Have I Ever are my favs right now) and really bad TV (Sexy Beasts on Netflix is ridiculous). Trying out new hobbies (went tubing last month and doing a moonlight paddle this month), all the board games (I love games!), going on weekly walks with a friend, I actually still enjoy bar hopping quite a bit, now I just try out all their non alcoholic options and drive myself home at the end of it; haven’t done sober karaoke yet but love me a good karaoke sesh and last but not least… masturbate 😏😜. Dipsea is a cool app that has some amazing and inclusive audio stories that are 🔥 🔥 🔥
theyogabrain: Games! My son and I play games every night at dinner. Shoots and ladders, monopoly, battleship, go fish chess, whatever. Ive reconnected with some favorite games from childhood and have researched new ones and it’s been so much fun.
lisamaybennett: I like to try new things, usually active stuff like indoor rock climbing, pole dancing, zip-lining, etc. But those are things you kinda have to schedule. More spontaneously, I like to dance around. My husband and I play “name that artist” with the top songs from various decades. Do you follow @_catherineprice ? Fun is one of her things!
christinebohnsilva: • garden • crossword puzzles • hikes • sit in the sun • listen to records • look at stupidly expensive vintage tee shirts online
gabriellay: Silly dancing in the kitchen while making dinner with my family
monzeleey: I have fun turning music on, dancing cleaning, organizing... but that’s me 🤪 I have paint parties, or craft parties with myself or a few friends... I drink fun mocktails, and have fun with ingredients, so that I am enamored my them as much as i would be the profile of a glass of beer or wine, etc. Starting a new hobby is helpful as well. Also, long walks, especially at night after work, is also thoroughly enjoyable :)
bkwriter4life: Dancing. Karaoke revolution on my PS2. Singing along to my Spotify and Ytube music playlists. Reading. Walking around my neighborhood and exploring. To do lists. Coloring books. Browsing bookstores. Visiting libraries. Baking vegan treats. Cooking. Movies. TV shows. Blogging. Discovering new music.
acidfastbacillus: I’ve rediscovered the joy of reading a book. I also love my Saturday morning newspaper with an almond croissant.
shark_tooth_necklace: film photography. its been a rewarding and fun hobby, and the act of composing and taking a photo is grounding
What I’m present to is how simple so many of these things are - finding joy in the exquisite everyday. I’m bookmarking this list for when when the squirrels are unleashed and I need a redirect.
All my good everything, tuya,
dani
📖Read: This week’s Ask Polly. Good lordt: “Now you realize that you’re a perfectionist. And at the exact moment when you should be sinking softly into this realization, letting your flaws and neurotic tics show their ugly heads like the beasts from Where The Wild Things Are, you’re trying to hunt them down and kill them instead. You could be dancing in the forest with these drooling monsters, celebrating your hideous deficits, embracing this unexpected love affair, feeling everything that’s here, and trusting that you’re good exactly the way you are.”
🎧Listen: I adore Tracee Ellis Ross’ vivaciousness and unapologetic joy and also when she talks about relationships and singledom and how she doesn’t need anyone to come sweet her off her feet, because she sweeps herself off her own feet, thanks. I listened to this episode of UNDISTRACTED after writing this week’s post Listen here.
