What’s that I hear? Is it…an…exhale????
Y’all. Happy Friday. For real this time.
One of the things I’ve been waking up to - and I bet you have too, and I’ve been seeing similar reflections buzzing around the internet - is how much more space I already have inside my brain now that Trump isn’t hijacking every single last possible headline. If the inauguration is the biggest relief so far this year, Trump getting kicked off Twitter is the second. It’s just so damn nice to not have his constant, pervasive, yammering commentary buzzing around everywhere.
I know the work is only just beginning. I know things aren’t magically fixed with a Biden administration. I know there are still so many dark days to come. I know it’s going to be a long slog to bring all the Trumpist maniacs to account.
And good god, this tiny bit of reclaimed brain-space is so, so sweet.
Maybe it’s too early to know, for sure, but even if it’s just an inkling:
I’d love to hear what’s opening up for you since Wednesday.
Personally, my sleep has been so deep. I treated myself to my favorite ice cream Wednesday night. I’m letting myself look forward to sunnier horizons. I’m giggling like a wildwoman with my housemates.

💔 The Random Conversations We Can’t Have Right Now. “Without cafés, or bars, or restaurants, the vacuum of no-stakes conversations with people I might never see again has started to feel particularly acute. I had never realized how much I relied on surface-level bonding to create a feeling of community.”
🤝 How to Talk Someone Out Of Bigotry. If you have time, the video embedded into the article is so profound and beautiful. “New research tells us changing minds with deep canvassing is not impossible; it’s just very hard. The payoffs are small and incremental, but they are real.”
👩🏽💻 Quarantine Brain - “Nothing made sense this year — unless you were on the internet.”
🤔 As someone who has spent MANY YEARS very embedded into the world of wellness/healing/fitness, I am utterly fascinated with the way so many of these folks embraced QAnon. This Cosmo article was illuminating.
✍🏽 And last, a poem. You can read it out loud ;) or listen to the poet read it herself.
🧤 And now, as promised, an exhaustive-ish Bernie meme gallery. If you’re already annoyed by this, I get it, no biggie.
I’m still finding the silliness hella cathartic.
Also, I’m pretty sure this email is WAY too long so it will probably get cut off in your inbox - if you want all the goods click through to the actual newsletter.

I LOVE not having to hear his voice, read his tweets or wake up to some new atrocity he's committed. When I scan my body for tension, I'm no longer clenching my teeth like a maniac...
