Between the election and the ongoing misery of living in Pandemia, we are under constant stress. Then we add some smoky skies, or a hurricane warning…
What I’ve been noticing is that we’re at this point where we’ve been under the cosmic squeeze for a long time. We are months into this. And regardless of what results we want in November, election shit is stressful for everyone. So yeah. What I’m noticing is some squirrely behavior. Folks acting in ways that are kind of mean. Coming in way hot interactions that are out of proportion to the situation.
Do you know what I mean?
Today, after a particularly bristly email at work, I thought about assuming good intent. How might I do better the next time I’m communicating with someone —even digitally (ESPECIALLY digitally!) — at pausing, breathing, and remembering that just like me, every last one of us is doing the best we can with what we have access to. Yeah, sometimes we have to call out egregious behavior or language. I get that. I’m not saying to bypass shittyness. I am saying that, well, we say we want a different world. And, the thing is, if that’s what we want, we’re going to have to hold onto each other, or that idea, that promise is nothing but a dumb pipe dream.
I just want to say that I love you and that I believe, still, that we are more good than we are not.
No question today. Just some links below that warmed my little heart-cockles.
